URL structure doesn't carry as much weight in Google's ranking signals as title or content, but it directly affects user trust and click-through rate; the green URL line shown in search results is one of the first signals a user reads when deciding whether a page is trustworthy and worth clicking. One study found that when users are choosing between two similarly titled results, they glance at the URL too, and click more often on the result with the shorter, clearer address - proof that a URL isn't just a technical detail, it's a marketing element that directly affects click-through rate.
